Lily Kuo
Teacher Lily
was born and raised in Taiwan until the age of 12 before she came to the US. Due
to the interest of her native culture, she has never stopped learning Mandarin:
took Chinese literature classes in UC Santa Barbara, studied abroad in Taiwan
University, and of course reading Chinese newspapers and literature
continuously. She is fluent in speaking, reading, and writing both Chinese and
English.
Teacher Lily
wanted to be a teacher since childhood but it was not until a few years ago that
she finally decided to teach. First she spent a year obtaining a teaching
certificate (‘Teaching Chinese as a Heritage or Other Language’) from California
State University of East Bay in Oakland in 2006. Then I began teaching adults
Mandarin in companies. Last year she taught graduate students in Italy on
Chinese films, literature, conversations, and helped them apply for scholarship
to China: one of them had obtained full scholarship!
Teacher Lily
returned to California in May 2008 and applied for StarTalk Teacher Program at
UC Berkeley to enhance my teaching skills. She was one of the 20 students who
were admitted with a stipend. She is currently teaching elementary school
children in an after-school enrichment program and several private classes at
Fun Mandarin.
