Children will be immersed in a totally play-based Chinese environment. They will learn to write simple traditional Chinese characters and recognize words and sentences at the beginning level, then gradually practice Chinese speaking and listening skills with teachers and friends.
Children will learn Chinese songs, finger play, games, traditional arts & crafts, ancient poems, and be introduced to some popular children’s literature and folk tales.
Our curriculum is based on “My First Chinese Words” along with many hands-on activities designed by our experienced teachers. Our curriculum is tailored with age-appropriate developmental levels in mind.
This class will cover listening, speaking, writing, and reading skills.
Curriculum
My First Chinese Words is published by Better Chinese, Ltd., located in Beijing. There are 36 different theme booklets in this set. Our lessons are designed to utilize these themes, along with other unique hands-on activities developed by our teachers to stimulate and encourage our students.
This set of My First Chinese Words is specially designed for young children of non-native Chinese families or living in non-Chinese speaking communities. 36 books contain the very first set of basic Chinese characters and sentence patterns compiled by highly experienced Chinese teachers at the International School of Beijing. Lively and friendly illustrations help bring a new language closer to home. Learning Chinese as a second language becomes a lot of fun through these fine little books.
The first section of the class will cover 12 booklets. Students will be expected to read and recite from the textbooks. A binder of homework will be taken home after each class, and students should spend about 15-30 minutes at home performing Chinese homework. A cassette tape will be sent home with your child to allow listening and speaking practice.
